The Role of Digital Collections and IT in the EHRI-PL Project

The EHRI-PL project involves staff from various departments of the Jewish Historical Institute (JHI). One of the key roles in the project is played by the Digital Collections and IT Department, which is responsible for the digital processing and preservation of archival heritage.

An essential aspect of a scanning technician’s work is close cooperation with the Archive, which provides previously prepared materials for digitisation – primarily archival documents. The reprography process includes scanning, digital post-processing, and an initial quality check to ensure that the number of digital files matches the number of physical objects. The final stage involves uploading the scans to a digital repository, where they become part of the resources available to researchers and users worldwide.
